Revamp – Seaside Apartment

This was one of the most satisfying projects Cape Kitchen Designs completed recently. This seaside apartment was inherited by the owners, and they felt that the outdated old kitchen needed some tender loving care, to fit in with their new furniture and decor.

Old melamine doors before kitchen revamp

They were happy with the existing lay-out of the kitchen, but the old doors were really old fashioned melamine with wooden handles, so we decided to replace the doors with Shaker style supawood, which we then painted white. We also fitted new soft-close hinges on doors, and new handles which the owners supplied.

The owner decided to keep the tiled counter top, as it still looked good. We just painted the wood trim around it.

Old Oak cupboards before being painted.

On the Lounge/dining area side, there was a beautiful solid wood cupboard, but it also did not compliment the rest of the decor. We decided to paint that in a dark grey colour, which matched the rest of the decor superbly! After sanding it down, and applying a primer and 2 coats of grey paint, we added some interest to the doors, by doing a paint effect in white, in the grooves on the door panels. It really added interest and made the cupboard stand out.

The clients were absolutely over the moon with the finished results of the projects. They just loved that for a minimum of expense, they were able to give their apartment a completely new look with the painted cupboards. They saved a lot of money by not replacing all the cupboards with a new kitchen. By just adding new doors, and painting the old carcass, they were able to have a kitchen that looked brand new, for a fraction of the price of a newly installed kitchen.
